On the occasion of Republic Day 2022, we are presenting a few interesting facts regarding the Indian Constitution and the writing process.
- There are only two original handwritten versions of the Hindi and English Constitutions. In the Parliament, these replicas are maintained in helium-filled containers
2. Writing the constitution was a monumental undertaking that took 166 days to accomplish over the course of 2 years, 11 months, and 18 days.
3. The Indian Constitution consists of 444 articles divided into 22 sections and 12 schedules.
4. On January 26, 1955, Rajpath, formerly known as Kingsway, became the permanent location for the Republic Day procession.
5. The inaugural Republic Day parade was held on January 26, 1950, with Indonesian President Dr. Sukarno as the principal guest.
6. The President and his cavalier bodyguards lead the Republic Day procession by saluting the National Flag first.
7. The timing of the gun salute on Republic Day corresponds to the time of the National Anthem, with the first fire at the start and the final at the 52nd second.
8. The aircrafts scheduled to participate in the Flypast take off from various base sites and arrive at the venue at predetermined times. This necessitates the utmost level of coordination.
9. Our constitution, ratified in 1950, succeeded the British colonial Government of India Act (1935).
10. On January 24, 1950, 308 Assembly members signed the initial handwritten copies of the Indian Constitution.
