Odisha bus accident: Bengal govt deploys rescue teams, relief materials for injured passengers

A day after five persons were killed and several others were injured in a bus accident in Odisha’s Jajpur district, the West Bengal government on Tuesday deployed teams of administrative officials along with relief materials for the injured passengers from the state.

At least five people, including a woman, died and around 35 others were injured after a bus fell from a bridge in Odisha’s Jajpur district on Monday evening.

The injured included around 24 passengers from Bengal – 12 from Purba Medinipur, one from Uttar Dinajpur and the remaining 11 are Kolkata and Howrah districts.

Taking to X, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee condoled the deaths and said the families of the victims will be granted compensation.

“…Bengal has been sending officials, materials, ambulances etc. to the site in Odisha for rescue assistance. …Beds have been reserved in Medinipur medical college. Compensation will be paid to the next of kin of the dead and the injured as per rules,” Banerjee wrote on X.
