46,393 new cases reported in Maharashtra; 45 more fatalities reported in Delhi

According to the health ministry, almost 337,704 new Covid cases were reported in India today. With 38.9 million cases, India is the second worst-affected country behind the United States. On Friday, Delhi and Mumbai saw a decrease in Covid instances, with 10,756 and 5,008 single-day cases, respectively.

Meanwhile, the Union Health Ministry announced that starting January 22, foreign travellers travelling from high-risk nations will longer be required to stay in isolation facilities. The government also stated in a statement that they would still be subjected to a seven-day home quarantine.

Karnataka has chosen to lift the weekend curfew, but Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin has declared a state-wide lockdown on January 23 owing to an increase in Covid-19 cases.

The Election Commission would meet today to decide whether the ban imposed by it on physical rallies and roadshows to prevent the spread of should continue.

In other developments, the BCCI and IPL team owners will hold a virtual conference today to examine alternative backup sites for the 2019 season of the league.
