2016 Nuh gangrape & murder: Court gives death penalty to 4

A special CBI court in Panchkula Saturday awarded death sentence to four convicts in connection with the 2016 murder a farmer and his wife, and the gangrape of their two nieces at Dingerheri village in Nuh district’s Tauru (Haryana).

The special CBI court has ordered the four convicts be hanged by neck till they are dead.

The special CBI judge, Rajeev Goyal (Additional District and Sessions Judge), sentenced the four — Hemat Chouhan (30), Ayan Chauhan (24), Vinay (36) and Jai Bhagwan (31) — to death and also slapped a combined fine of Rs 8.20 lakh on them.

On April 10, the court had found the four guilty of double murder, gang rape and dacoity. On the same date, the court had also acquitted six accused — Tejpal Yadav, Amit Yadav, Ravinder Yadav, Karamjit, Rahul Verma, and Sandeep — of the charges.

As per the CBI, the incident took place on the intervening night of August 24/25, 2016, in Dingerhedi village, Nuh district, when the accused – a group of 4-5 persons – entered the house of a 40-year-old farmer at midnight and attacked the members of the house with lathis and iron rods. They (accused) also had a pistol. They gang-raped two females, including a minor girl, at their home and then looted ornaments and cash from their possession. Due to the attack, one of the victims died along with his wife and others were grievously injured.

Festive offer

On the request of the state government (Haryana), the CBI took over the investigation. While pronouncing the sentence, the CBI court said, “In view of serious and grave offences committed by the convicts, they are not entitled to be shown any leniency in the matter of award of sentence inasmuch as they not only killed a Muslim couple by hitting them with sticks on their heads but also gang-raped a minor girl of 16 years and a married woman of 21 years in a most brutal, cruel and ruthless manner…”
